A FORMER football player, now a senior citizen, Eddie Nyembezi (79), wants to organise a get-together for senior citizens who played football between 1949 and 1998 and share football memories.

He recently received a trophy from his former teammate that Pirates FC won in 1949.
“The trophy was presented at the Royal Hotel in 1949 when I played football. My team was Stella FC in Bongweni. Teams that competed for the trophy were Kokstad Swallows, Juventus, Stella FC and Pirates FC.”

Nyembezi believes that honouring and remembering those former football players will motivate the youth to love football.

He told the Fever: “Football players today play soccer for money unlike us where we played for the love of the game without getting paid.

“I want former football players to come together and share moments that will motivate the youth to abstain from alcohol and drug abuse.”
