THE problem of children who have to wear worn-out school shoes touched the Cing’ba Construction and Project Management owners.

Following this, the business donated 39 pairs of new school shoes last Friday to children who receive extra care at Khanyiselani Children’s Centre in Kokstad.

Mkhumbuleni Matta, Olwethu Jojo, Andile Jojo and Xoliswa Jojo own Cing’ba Construction and Project Management, and their company is based in Johannesburg but they all come from Kokstad and so they decided to give back at home by donating school shoes to children.

The children who come from poor families get meals, uniforms and help with their school work at the centre.

The centre takes care of 112 vulnerable children who are orphans and other children who come from poor families.

After school, children also visit the centre for counselling to boost their self-esteem, and get trained in music, dancing and other activities.

Sibongile Mofoka, the centre manager of Khanyiselani Children’s Centre, said the government supports the centre but due to the needs of the children, more support is required.

“We have children who come from homes where there is no income. As a result, they depend on the food we provide to survive.

“The centre can’t afford to reduce the number of children, instead we ask sponsors to keep donating uniforms and food for sustainability,” said Mofoka.

She said home visits are being done by the centre and it sometimes donates food parcels when required.
