Some ruling party candidates not supported

THE South African Communist Party (SACP) has declared not to support five ANC candidates, alleging they were elected overnight in Umzimkhulu.
Members of the SACP at Umzimkhulu took a resolution to campaign for ruling party candidates, but not those who were not elected by the majority of people.

According to Ntlahla Zungu, SACP district secretary in the Greater Umzimkhulu region, these candidates that the SACP will not campaign for were elected during the night by some members of the ruling party.

“The SACP is going to support all candidates of the ruling party at Umzimkhulu except five.
“We are not going to recognise them as councillors even if they win in August.

“SACP resources will not be spent on these ‘imposed councillors’,” said Zungu.

In April a group of more than 100 Ward 22 community members barricaded the R56 stating that Mcebisi Mbewana be elected as their candidate.
Zungu accused the ruling party of not listening to people during the election of candidates earlier this year.
