The 2019 NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) applications countdown continues with applications set to close on November 30. Since the opening of applications on September 3, the NSFAS has received more than 265 000 applications, which is over 100% more compared to the same time last year. At this rate, they are expecting over 300 000 applications by the end of November. The NSFAS wishes to encourage learners, out of school youth and people with disabilities to apply before November 30.They can apply online at www.nsfas.org.za or at any NYDA (National Youth Development Agency) centre closest to them. They are also extremely concerned that the number of applications received from learners who wish to enroll at TVET colleges is minimal, at only 12% of the overall applications received, compared to 88% for universities. The NSFAS calls upon all teachers, parents and guardians to remind grade nine to 12 learners who wish to enroll at a TVET college for 2019 to submit their applications before November 30. Do not to wait for admission at an institution before applying, apply today, apply now. Learners and out of school youth should also be reminded that the quality of education offered at TVET colleges is just good as that offered at universities, therefore we encourage learners to seek learning and training opportunities at these colleges. — Supplied.
