Nompumelelo Mvuyane (22), from Mhlangeni village in Umzimkhulu began 2018 with a smile as she won a new car at a beauty pageant hosted by the Transkei Defence Force Military Veteran’s Association in Umzimkhulu on December 30, 2017.

Mvuyane is a final-year student in education at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

She told Fever the car is a blessing from God.

“I have entered many competitions, but have never won a car. I thank members of the veteran’s association, who hosted this event in the rural town of Umzimkhulu where there are fewer opportunities like this for young girls,” said Mvuyane.

Last year, she was crowned Miss Pinetown and won money which she donated to a children’s home in Pinetown.

She promised to help young girls from Umzimkhulu to reach their goals.

The pageant had entries from 12 girls aged between 18 and 25 from all wards in Umzimkhulu.

Sosha Zincume, a veteran’s association member, encouraged young girls to make education their priority. He said the competition will be held again before the end of this year.
