IN a joint operation headed by Pietermaritzburg Hawks on March 23, the police arrested four suspects aged between 41 and 48 for possession of suspected stolen stock at Ndilini near Creighton.

The Hawks were following up on information about suspects who were selling cattle in the area.
They were identified through undercover operations and were kept under surveillance.

“The operation was conducted by members of Stock Theft Unit, Stock Theft experts, Air-wing Unit, Equestrian Unit, Umzinto K9 Unit and other stakeholders,” said Hawksspokesman, Simphiwe Mhlongo.

The suspects were caught red handed while selling the cattle. About 19 head of cattle valued at approximately R100 000 were recovered and taken to the pound for safe keeping.
On Monday all the accused appeared in the Hlanganani Magistrate’s Court and the case was postponed to April 5 for bail application. All suspects remain in custody.

Hawks are asking community members who lost their cattle in Bulwer, Creighton, and surrounding areas to come forward.
