Suspects arrested after woman set alight

2017-04-28 06:00

AFTER a 37-year-old Harding woman was burnt to death on February 20, three suspects were arrested in Klerksdorp recently.
An intensive investigation by Harding police and North West police led to the arrest.

In February, the woman was asleep in Machi village when the suspects allegedly kidnapped her and her 14-year-old daughter. The suspects forced the woman and her daughter into her car boot and drove it to a riverbank. They took her bank cards and purchased petrol and poured it over the victims and set them alight.

The daughter managed to flee and jump into the water where she swam to the other side of the river and reported the matter to the police station. The woman was burnt to death.

The KZN acting commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa commended police for arresting suspects.
“Police will make sure these suspects are taken to court to be prosecuted and receive a harsh sentences. The persistence of the investigation officers to solve this case is commended.
“The communication and good working relationship with police in North West province led to these successful results. This is a reminder to criminals that the long arm of the law covers the entire country — there is nowhere to hide.”

The suspects are expected to be charged with murder, attempted murder and kidnapping. The suspects will appear in the Harding Magistrate’s Court soon. — Supplied.
