IN a Matatiele shop robbery on Tuesday morning, two suspects, aged between 25 and 30, were shot and killed, two others remain at large.
According to reports four robbers entered the shop that sold airtime and cellphones at 8am, demanding money.

They the fled with cellphones, airtime and an undisclosed amount of cash in the direction of Maluti.

SAPS spokesperson Raphael Motloung confirmed the robbery and police went to the shop to investigate.

“The CCTV cameras showed the four suspects going in and out the shop and then getting into a car that was owned by someone known in Sibi village outside Matatiele.
“Police went to Sibi village to look for the owner of the car, who was found at home and he was questioned.”

Motloung said the car owner refused to assist police with information, but directed them to a nearby forest where the suspects were hiding.

The suspects opened fire on police and police responded.

“Two suspects were declared dead on the scene and the other two are on the run. Police discovered a knife, two firearms a 9mm, a revolver and 40 rounds of ammunition,” said Motloung.
