‘Taking law into own hands’ discouraged

2017-06-30 06:00

THE SAPS have raised concern about the increase of incidents where community members are taking the law into their own hands.

SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said during the past week four incidents were reported within the Ugu cluster where it is alleged that the community punished fellow residents for committing crimes.

“We want to strongly advise the community to guard against the unlawful actions, but rather come forward with information so police can deal with the perpetrators.

“We will have to arrest and charge persons who harm others simply because they want to get rid of them in their respective areas after allegedly committing crimes. Taking the law into your own hands might result in you ending up in jail,” said Wiid. - Supplied.
