Theft from motor vehicles on the rise

2018-03-16 06:00

PEOPLE are warned to be alert as incidents of theft out of motor vehicles are increasing in Kokstad.

This comes after a case was opened after criminals stole a car sound system and speakers from a vehicle that was parked in a yard in Groom Street on March 1.

The value of the stolen items totalled R3 000.

Last Friday, a 38-year-old man reported a case of theft out of a motor vehicle after criminals stole a laptop from inside his vehicle.

The man parked his vehicle in a parking lot and when he returned to the car from a shop, he noticed the vehicle was open.

SAPS spokesperson Captain Dumisani Ncongo warned people to be vigilant to this kind of crime. He said a grinder, extension cord and drill were stolen from a vehicle in Hope Street last Friday and no arrests have been made.

Last Sunday, another case was opened after a speaker with a value of R600 was stolen from a car.

He said all cases are under investigation.
