THE sudden death of maskhandi artist Danisile Khambule, better known as “5-Roses”, is mourned by her colleagues, fans and family.

Khambule (55) died after she showed signs of shortness of breath in her house in Durban on January 20.

Her funeral service will be held in her home town of Umzimkhulu tomorrow.

She starter her music career in 1987 and released a number of albums.

Her last performance was on December 16, 2017, at a festival in Umzimkhulu. Her daughter, Kholeka Dlamini, said Khambule’s role in the family was important and helpful.

“My mother died while she was fighting radio stations to play maskhandi music,” said Dlamini.

Umzimkhulu Local Municipality communications officer Willie Mgcina said the municipality is saddened by Khambule’s death because her role in promoting and developing artists was excellent.

“Khambule played a huge role in the formation of the maskhandi structure in Umzimkhulu and her death is shocking,” said Mgcina.

Khambule leaves behind two daughters, Kholeka and Zandile Dlamini.
