A NUMBER of KwaZulu-Natal netball players from all district municipalities received training at a three-day, high-performance camp held in Mhlathuze Sport’s Complex in Richard Bay last weekend.

Some of the players included Siyasanga Estrice (Kokstad), Nonsikelelo Mazibuko (Zululand), Snayo Ndaba (Ethekwini), Navani Moodley (Ethekwini), Nokubonga Dlamini (Mgungundlovu), Philisiwe Dlomo (Mgungundlovu), Pretty Kanetsi (Ugu) and Habiba Useni (Ilembe).

‘‘KZN lacks tall players, especially when competing with other provinces, therefore this camp targeted tall players. The shorter ones that made it into this camp were chosen because of their speed,” said KZN netball chairperson Themba Mkhize.

Representing Harry Gwala District, Siyasanga Estrice said she was overwhelmed at the opportunity to attend the camp and said playing centre and wing attacker is what she prefers.

“I am in Grade 12 at Shayamoya Secondary and I am very happy to have attended this camp as we learnt physical training and teamwork,” she said. Another netballer, Pretty, who represented Ugu, also expressed delighted regarding the training.

Speaking to the Fever, she called on young girls to play netball with passion and commitment.

Coaches that were training players said coaching was a bit challenging, as players were coming from many different areas, but said that the players had improved over the course of the event.

“It has been a worthwhile weekend for the young ladies that were appointed by their district chairperson to be part of the new programme. The programme aims at nourishing players for the provincial senior teams,” said Mkhize.
