CARL Malcomess High, known for drug abuse and violence, was visited by pastors last Thursday who prayed for peace, and the matrics, who start exams next Tuesday, October 24.

Pastor Mbuyiswa Nocanda said it is necessary for pupils to be prayed for before their final exams.

The school is in Bongweni Township where violence, drug dealing and harassment is an everyday occurrence.

Last month, a Grade 9 pupil allegedly stabbed a 15-year-old pupil with a knife in class.

School governing body member Monde Nondabula said the school rules have been strengthened and things appear to be better.

“The situation is calm and pupils are adhering to the rules laid down by the school. They were also told not to carry knives and use drugs on school premises,” said Nondabula.

He said many pupils need guidance from teachers because they seem to lack support at home.

A school management team member, Lilo Tau thanked the pastors.

The school is aiming for better matric results this year compared to the 67% it got last year.
