TWO trucks were involved in a head-on collision on the N2 near Harding last Thursday morning. SAPS spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said one of the trucks was coming from Kokstad and tried to overtake another truck by a bend while a breakdown services truck was approaching from the opposite direction.
“It is alleged that one truck was travelling on the wrong side facing oncoming traffic and the breakdown truck tried to swerve to avoid the collision. The other truck was trying to go back to its lane when they collided and both cabs of the trucks disconnected from the trailers,” said Mfeka. The cab of the breakdown truck caught alight and burnt out but the driver managed to escape with injuries while his crew burnt to death in the cab of the truck.

“The driver and the crew of the other truck died at the scene. Their names will not be released until their next of kin have been informed,” said Mfeka. Harding detectives are investigating three counts of culpable homicide. - Supplied.
