Drafting of a five-year IDP document to be adopted by special council

For the municipality to better its service delivery approach in line with the needs of the community and other stakeholders it is imperative to develop a five-year plan document.

The exercise to invite public views and suggestions on service delivery had been exhausted by the municipality through the string of mayoral izimbizo that were held late in 2016. Until council adopts this document, it will remain a draft.

It is on that note that a special council meeting is to be held on March 24 at Umzimkhulu Council Chambers.

Ordinary Executive Committee (Exco)

In the spirit of monitoring and evaluation in line with oversight responsibility of the Council of Umzimkhulu Municipality municipal departments will submit their monthly reports.

These municipal departments share successes, challenges, upcoming programmes and further seek council interventions through their recommendations.

These reports are submitted to the standing committees later escalated to Exco then to full council where necessary. The Exco of Umzimkhulu Municipality is therefore sitting on March 28 at Umzimkhulu chambers to deliberate on the reports submitted.

Revenue enhancement campaign

As a municipality, we clearly understand that we have the responsibility to educate our communities about the importance of paying municipal rates.

It is on that note that at times we profile some households as indigent. Informed and motivated citizenry is paramount to this municipality therefore we are going to be conducting an awareness campaign on this regard on the March 29 in Ward 16. Till we meet again.

GREETINGS to everyone, especially the citizens of Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Municipality.

Unity in action in advancing human rights

Human Rights Day commemorates a poignant moment in South Africa's history, in which we remember the country's struggle for the ideals of equality, freedom and dignity.
This year South Africa celebrates the centenary of the birth of Oliver Tambo, a luminary whose vision for a multicultural society continues to pervade the national discourse. Unity to move South Africa forward is the national theme for this year.

Globally, the world is seeing a resurgence of polarising and divisive politics, inflammatory rhetoric and discrimination against people on the basis of religion, gender, race and sexuality.
It is our duty as the community of Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Municipality to seek to affirm each other's humanity through our teaching, research and community engagement. This is why we collectively took a decision to host Human Rights Day on March 28 at Himeville Community Hall.
The finalisation plans for this event was jointly presented to the local Sukuma Sakhe task team on March 23 in the Creighton boardroom. It is through working together that we are able to achieve more. We recognise the efforts by our officials and acknowledge their contribution and putting people first, siyabonga.

Our stakeholders continue to be the seed of hope that sprinkles life in society, and to the local task team members and chairperson, we salute you.
Through the office of the mayor, we have finalised the dates for the projects that will be handed over as well as sod-turnings. This is a milestone for this new municipality, and demonstrates the level at which service delivery is being prioritised at NDZ.
On March 28 we will be at Magqubeni sports field at 9am to hand over the project to the community of Ward 6. The following day we will be handing over the project of Mncane Sosibo community hall under Ward 4 at 9am and on the same day we visit Ward 5 to hand over the Amakhuze electrification.
We move under the theme of “Service delivery to the people”, and by so doing we are shining a light into a pit where no helmet has ever shone. Until next time, stay blessed
