Postponement 2017/2018 of IDP and budget outreach programme
Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, we had no choice but to postpone the 2017/2018 IDP & Budget Outreach Programme that was scheduled to start from April 20 until May 3. This programme will now be held from May 3 until May 8 and we call upon stakeholders to be part of this strategic and prestigious gathering.

Municipal bereavement
Over the weekend the municipality learnt with great sadness about the death of the Speaker Councillor Khaya Thobela. The cowardice, barbaric and merciless manner in which this leader was assassinated shook Umzimkhulu and KZN.
As the captain of the council, Thobela played an undisputedly significant role in the success of Umzimkhulu Municipality, resulting in this municipality winning numerous awards on both a national and provincial platform consecutively.
The culture of aligning administrative programmes into the broader political agenda has ensured that the community of Umzimkhulu tap into a better life for all. That achievement will always be attributed to his leadership. Thobela was attacked on the evening last Thursday at his home in Mfundweni Village. He was rushed to hospital whereby he received a high level of medical attention, but unfortunately he died on Sunday.
Thobela has left a huge void in this rural municipality that both management and political leadership will have to restore peace and assure them that Thobela would be better remembered by his good deeds than sorrow.
Successful 2017 Manqoba Mngqithi

For the first time in our district, one of our own initiated and led not only a fruitful, but a successful tournament in Harry Gwala District. Seeing the level of commitment by sponsors, partners, organisers and participants motivated this rural municipality to further create an enabling environment for the Manqoba Mngqithi Foundation. As this sphere of governance, we will always pride ourselves on having an eloquent and societally conscious public figure from our own ranks.

Till we meet again.
