Condom week awareness campaign

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, are a major public health burden in South Africa hence they are very costly towards the government’s budget. The epidemic is complex and thought to be influenced by a number of behavioural, historical and structural factors including patterns of sexual partnerships, heavy episodic alcohol use, gender inequality, violence and poverty. In realising that Umzimkhulu is not immune to such realities of life, we have since adopted a conduct condom awareness campaigns as programme to educate the communities of Umzimkhulu. In the spirit of Operation Sukuma Sakhe, we have fruitfully partnered with Red Cross, Department of Health, Department of Education, Harry Gwala District Municipality and other relevant stakeholders. This weekend, we are going to be in Washbank Community Hall of Ward 17.

Stray animals

It is public knowledge that as a municipality through the impactful and popular presidential programme known as Operation Siyahlola, we have since given birth to an Umzimkhulu Municipal Pound. This project was due to numerous challenges and fatalities caused by domestic animals straying on the road of Umzimkhulu. Due to its demands, this unit created permanent job opportunities. The impact thereof is that road fatalities and other challenges caused by it, decreased. We would like to take this opportunity and applaud the community of Umzimkhulu and stakeholders for the fruitful role they have played towards our enforcement. We further would like to urge them not to refrain from their evident commitment.

Jumbo’s celebratory award event
