Umzimkhulu Local Municipality viewpoint

2016-12-09 06:01

GREETINGS to all.

SMME facility

Umzimkhulu Local Municipality has taken into account the conditions under which our SMMEs work. In the last financial year council has approved the building of a SMME facility where SMMEs will sell their produce. This facility will be the market centre of this rural-based town and will dignify users.

Long arm of the law

At this time last year, Umzimkhulu was shocked by the killing of a pregnant teenage pupil. That incident shook the Umzimkhulu community because it was more unhuman than anyone could have imagined.

It took place at a time when our country was very vocal about women and children abuse.

At this year’s 16 Days Activism campaign it is pleasing to know that due to the long arm of the law and community role the suspects have been brought to justice. This has once again proved that our state security agencies are competent regardless of the conditions they work under, and we applaud them.

Arrive alive

As the festive season has arrived we call upon all commuters to assist us and our law enforcement partners by blowing the whistle on any transgression. We also ask drivers to be mindful of other vehicles as they responsibly drive theirs.

Umzimkhulu Municipality asks drivers to refrain from any acts of road rage because the implications thereof are always regrettable. As we embark on different journeys, we need to plan well in advance and avoid unplanned trips. It is imperative to rest in-between a long journey in order to avoid fatigue.

Third anniversary of Mandela’s death

To better celebrate this stalwart`s life, we are focusing on intensifying our approach towards co-ordination and the running of war rooms. It is on that note that we say all ward committee secretaries will be responsible for the administration of the war rooms. This approach will assist on further giving life to Operation Sukuma Sakhe.

Disability Month programmes

The reality is that we are disabled, but we differ in our disabilities, therefore creating an enabling place for programmes that seek to dignify this sector is paramount. Through all wards of Umzimkhulu Municipality, the disability sector is represented.

This municipality has also taken an approach by employing a disabled person who manages the desk, so the community structure of people with disabilities has been launched and is effective.

Until we meet again.
