Umzimkhulu Municipality viewpoint

2016-01-15 06:00

WARM greetings and compliments of the new year to Umzimkhulu residents.

We, as Umzimkhulu Municipality, wish to congratulate all who made it through into the new year. It has not been an easy journey that we have traversed because it was marred with storms and turbulence, although we subdued all that, the legacy will be remembered by many.

It is not fiction that our history was full of injustices because our people suffered because of discrimination. Let us welcome the matric results and compliment the efforts made by our pupils, particularly those who passed with good symbols.
As Umzimkhulu Municipality we urge our young people to come in their numbers and apply for registration assistance for needy pupils who have received admission letters. This is a contribution towards quality education to all South Africans. The principle of first come, first served will be applicable.

We can’t keep quiet about the ridiculing and disgracing of the remnants with racist tendencies that are still mushrooming in this country. We want to name and shame those who persist in believing that this country should be returned to the old days when white supremacy was the order of the day.
Blacks were treated like animals, they deserved to be kept in a cage so that they would not understand life beyond the conditions they were subjected to. Thanks a lot that Penny Sparrow and many more do not have a place to inhabit because this country is democratic and belongs to all who live in it, but not racists.

Let us look back at service delivery issues - the electrification project in Ward 20 (Vukuzimele project). This project is being implemented by Eskom, working with the municipality. We want to allay fears of those who have been deceived and excluded from the project by community members. We want to assure them that we are going to explain the project, and it is not meant to perpetuate and instigate division among community members. The project will cover all areas since the connections will be more than 300 because it is last phase of the entire Vukuzimele project.

Thank you.
