Walkovers at the last league games

THE South African Breweries (SAB) Harry Gwala District South African Football Association (Safa) league ended with at least four walkovers against teams that failed to arrive to play their final games last weekend.

The teams Umzimkhulu United, Real Stars, Eastern Rangers and Barcelona FC did not arrive for their games, according to Mamisa Ngcobo, the deputy president of Safa in the Harry Gwala District.

Umzimkhlu United were supposed to face Bulwer United. Amakhehla FC were to play Real Stars. Eastern Rangers were meant to face Nkwezela Vultures who also failed to arrive at the field. All these games were declared walkovers, with the missing teams declared the losers. Barcelona FC were supposed to face Blackpool FC but they also did not pitch and lost after a walkover was declared.

Last weekend, Bhubesi FC from Kokstad beat Master 11 3-2, while Bush Bucks FC also from Kokstad defeated Mountain Celtics 1-0.

Ixopo United faced Lighthouse Academy and won the game 6-1. Teams that competed under stream A included Bulwer United, Umzimkhulu United, Ixopo Celtics, Lighthouse Academy, Mountain Celtics, Bush Bucks FC, Bhubesi FC, Master 11, Real Stars and Amakhehla Vultures.

Teams that played under Stream B were Ixopo United, Juveniles, Blackpool, Barcelona, Clydesdale United, T.Tigers, Ixopo Celtics, Eastern Rangers, Nkwezela Vultures and Kokstad Liverpool.

Juveniles beat Ixopo Celtics 2-1, T.Tigers beat Clydesdale United 5-1 and Eastern United beat Kokstad Liverpool 2-0 last weekend.

“This weekend, teams that have many points from stream A and B will be facing one another and the winner will be promoted to play the provincial play-offs at Vryheid on June 8, 9 and 10,” said Ngcobo.

Bulwer United had 36 points from stream A and will be facing Eastern Rangers in a deciding game that will be played at Umzimkhulu Turf on Sunday at 1 pm.

Eastern Ranger had 44 points from stream B.
