Women’s organisation receive a boost

GREATER Kokstad Municipality (GKM) has donated textile material and a machine to women’s organisation – Malibongwe Cooperative which has been operating for over 21 years.

Mayor Bheki Mtolo and municipal officials visited the organisation in Bhongweni Township on Wednesday morning and he was impressed when he was showed school uniform manufactured by them.

The organisation was established by unemployed women from Bhongweni to fight poverty and create job opportunities.

One of the founders, Constance Ntsombothi said the organisation was formed in response to a government call “vukuzenzele”. The 69-year-old Ntsombothi said all women who contributed in the formation of the organisation passed on long time ago, but currently three local women assisting her.

They make school uniform for six local schools in Kokstad and Mount Ayliff.

“We have been pleading for support for so many years and the municipality has finally answered our prayers,” said Ntsombothi.

She thanked the municipality for helping their organisation.

“The municipality has spent over R70 000 buying textile material and machines to support local organisations,” said GKM mayor Bheki Mtolo.
