WORKING on Fire staff, in partnership with Ubuhlebezwe Fire and Rescue and stakeholders and the community, attended a fire awareness campaign in Ixopo recently.

The campaign was held to educate people on how to be safe during fire season and prevent veld and forest fires.
Eskom, the Department of Community Safety, Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, traditional leaders and SAPS also attended the event.

Working on Fire general manager, Winnie Ndlovu said it is important to raise awareness about the risk of veld and forest fires early.

“We raise awareness to empower people so they are not at risk and for them to take responsibility in reducing risks.”

Ubuhlebezwe Fire and Rescue disaster manager, Mr. Dlamini said the municipality is working with Working on Fire by doing presentations and hosting workshops about safety in community areas.

Firefighters demonstrated on how they suppress fires and Ubuhlebezwe Fire and Rescue Team demonstrated their ability to put out burning tyres.

Working on Fire vowed to work with the many stakeholders to achieve the objective of creating resilient and fire safe communities. - Supplied.
