REFILOE Nketsa, a former player in the Harry Gwala District netball team and former Shayamoya High School pupil, has received a scholarship from Hoërskool Sentraal to further her education and get extra training in netball.

Refiloe is now doing Grade 11 at the school in Free State. She played netball for the Liverpool netball team in Kokstad and in August last year she was selected to play for the national squad in the winter games in Lesotho.

“I want to thank my coaches and Shayamoya High for giving me the opportunity to showcase my talent and I will not disappoint them. I want my former coaches to continue doing good work so as to develop other netballers,” said Refiloe, who plays in the goal defender position.

Berberto Mnikina, who is Refiloe’s former teacher and coach, congratulated Refiloe and called other young people to follow in her footsteps.

General manager of the Harry Gwala District netball team Simphiwe Cele, said Refiloe’s achievement shows that the district is on the right track in terms of training netballers.

“The district has lost a good player but we are happy about her opportunity. We want her to make us proud by working hard,” said Cele.
