Youth assisted in skill-gaining

YOUNG people from Kokstad were taught about using the internet to search for job opportunities and other skills at a youth event held at Bhongweni Youth Centre last Thursday.

Greater Kokstad Youth Council secretary Vuyisani Seroke said many unemployed young people need information on how to get jobs and market their small businesses.

He said the event was aimed at assisting young people to get jobs.

“There are many unemployed young people who lack skills. We told them to search Google to see how they can get bursaries, jobs and skills,” said Seroke. As part of celebrating Youth Month, the youth council visited several farm schools to assist matrics in getting identity documents and birth certificates.

He said there are many youth activities that will be useful to young people this month and a Youth Day event will be held on June 22.

“The mayoral tournament, which is aimed at developing the youth, was launched this month and many young people have participated. Our vision and mission as the youth council is to make sure that the youth of Kokstad are getting better education, better health, skills, and are free from drugs and alcohol,” he said.

He added that youth leaders from different structures will be spreading the #LiveTheLegacy theme that aims to challenge government and private companies to change the life of young people.
