THE Greater Kokstad Municipality has taken another step towards developing its young people.
This after it relaunched the youth council at Kokstad Town Hall after the former council’s term expired last Friday.

Sixteen young people were elected for the new council.

Speaking to Fever after being elected, the new Greater Kokstad Municipality Youth Council Chairperson, Samkelo “Stone” Nondize, described the forum as a place where young people will constructively challenge the way youth issues are perceived.
He said it will be a place where they will lay the foundations for the change they want to see.

“We are not going to fight with municipal management or councillors. Our main responsibility is to make sure the interest of young people is being developed and prioritised by the municipality,” said Nondize.

He challenged government departments to participate in the development of young people.
“We are very disappointed with the absence of government departments in the relaunch of our structure although they were invited,” said the new chairperson.

He said they will develop programmes or campaigns to fight social ills that affect the young Kokstad people.

“We are committed to fighting alcohol and drugs abuse among young people and we will encourage young people to participate in all sporting codes in order to keep them busy.

“I invite the young people of Kokstad to come together to fight drugs and we will deal fearlessly with drug dealers in our area,” said Nondize.

He warned drugs dealers that they have no place in society and asked that they be removed.

He also promised to help young people get skills, education and help to fight unemployment.
