Alexandra Park’s prostitute numbers increase

2015-04-30 16:45

ALEXANDRA Park is fast becoming the place for young prostitutes during the day, some of whom walk topless.

The Echo reporter went to see for herself after park cleaners raised concerns about the increasing number of these women.

The discovery of used condoms in the grass and under the trees was another concern that Echo was made aware of.

One of the cleaners said the park is becoming “the place to be” for prostitutes as their numbers are increasing.

At the end of December an Echo reporter witnessed a man and woman having sex in broad daylight opposite the Percy Taylor rockery in the park.

A cleaner, who asked not to be named, told Echo that what is worrying is that a lot of young people are seeing prostitution as a solution to their problems.

“They sit under the trees with beer and smoke cigarettes from the morning. Most of them are young and I doubt they have even reached matric. They don’t care who is watching them and their don’t-care attitude is worrying since this is a public park. There is a lot of public indecency here while people are at work. It is like we are watching a movie,” he said.

The other concern is seeing people in expensive cars stopping and paying to have sex with these girls, he added.

“It is so embarrassing because some of these girls are young. This place is becoming like Prince Alfred, which is known for prostitution,” said the cleaner
