IT’S all systems go for the All-In Africa Marathon on 13 September.

The marathon, with three distances - 56km, 21km and 10km - is held to commemorate 54 years since 1 400 delegates from across Africa hosted an All-In Africa Conference in Pietermaritzburg, and to honour struggle heroes

The marathon is an initiative of the Greater Edendale Athletics Club in partnership with Msunduzi municipality and the Department of Sports and Recreation.

The marathon will go through historical sites around the city.

Race chairperson said: “We are calling people to collect entries in their numbers.

“This is the first of its kind and it is important to honour our struggle heroes who played a huge role in bringing about political freedom. It is open to those from age 14. Let us all join hands in remembering all the struggle stalwarts who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.”

Event organiser Vusi Duma said the race is not only about honouring struggle heroes, it encourages unity among Africans, following recent incidents of xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks in the city.

“Our dream is to see this race being adopted by African countries as delegates from different countries were among attendees of the All-In Africa conference in 1961.

“ We also want to highlight the role played by the Indian community in the struggle,” he said.

Entry forms will be available from tomorrow at the Georgetown library in Edendale, the city hall and KZN Athletics offices in Durban
