MELVIN Peters, a South African jazz artist, will be performing at UKZN on 17 April. Peters will be accompanied by his band comprising - Bruce Baker, Ildo Nandja and Jeff Robinson - who will entertain jazz lovers of all ages.

Organiser Sam Groves said the aim of hosting Peters is to focus on promoting South African artists.

“We promise an entertaining night that will cater for everyone. Peters is one of the artists who have made a name for himself in the South African jazz genre and Pietermaritzburg is lucky to host an artist like him.

“This is our way of supporting jazz and artists who are part of the hard work that goes into composing and producing their music. We invite students who are into music and those who want to see themselves pursuing a career in music,” he said.

The event starts at 7pm until late in room A1 at UKZN. “We want to send the message out that we are not hosting the event for fundraising purposes - this will benefit the artists themselves. This means the money that is made from the event will go to the artists. People should come in their numbers as they will be inspired seeing Peters and his band.

Booking is essential and we urge people to book early,” said Groves.
