FROM humble beginnings making candles in her garage, to a four store company catering for every dream event, Yvette Abraham from Candles and Decor has cemented her place in the entertainment industry as one of the best.

Inspired by her sons Kyle and Keaton during a school project, Abraham began making and personalising candles which she supplied to people for special events like weddings and baptisms. That was 15 years ago. By 2003 her business had grown so much that she needed to look for premises to open a shop. She found one at 377 Hoosen Haffejee (then Berg) Street. Since then Abraham has incorporated decor into her business, expanding her service offering in leaps and bounds, allowing her to accept decor jobs from baby showers to 21st birthdays and weddings. Four years ago she got the opportunity to move into even bigger premises that has four shops filled with extravagant decor.

“It’s been a successful and interesting journey. I started with just one person, me, and now have a staff complement of 16,” said Abraham.

When asked what the most memorable function for her was, Abraham was lost for words.

“They’ve all been memorable. Every client is special and I put my all into everyone’s functions.”

Abraham initially studied music and wanted to be a music teacher.

“I’ve always been creative. I studied interior design after music and found that I had this passion for taking something ordinary and making it spectacular. My love for decor and the end result is what keeps me going. Seeing a clients’ happy face when they see the end result is the greatest reward,” said Abraham
