KEY Truck and Car Pietermaritzburg has been an integral part of the PMB business landscape for 42 years, and the dealership has been giving back to the community for many of those years, in part through its in-house Key Foundation initiative.

The foundation primarily targets and tackles social issues faced by communities, particularly in the areas of education, social welfare and HIV/Aids.

The RivLife Community Centre, an NGO in Cinderella Park, was appointed the beneficiary of the foundation since its inception in 2006. Throughout the years, the dealership created and maximised long-term value for its stakeholders, and encouraged Key employees and directors to participate in its community programmes.

Parts director Vish Padayachee says the dealership counts the youth from the impoverished Cinderella Park community among its employees.

On Heritage Day, Key took 27 children from the RivLife Community Centre to explore the Midlands Meander.

The children toured places such as the Swiss Cheese Farm and the Nelson Mandela Capture Site, which they found very educational.

Thereafter they were treated to a banquet-style braai lunch at Midmar Dam. After an afternoon of fun and games, they went to Howick Falls for ice cream while viewing the majestic beauty of the falls.

To end the day the children performed an Indlamu (Zulu traditional dance) at RivLife Community Centre and were later sent home with gift packs
