FLOWING faeces from a neighbour’s house is causing a stir in the neighbourhood.

A sewerage pipe has raised hygiene concerns in France, Phase 3 location. Neighbours, who live next to Gugu Nyembe’s house, say the sewerage pipe from her house puts their health at risk and they fear their children are at risk of getting sick from inhaling the smell.

Nyembe said she dug a hole after a plumber had failed to do proper plumbing, saying that she is aware of the danger that might be caused by the waste coming from her house.

Echo visited the Nyembe house and confirmed that faeces and urine that is being flushed from Nyembe’s toilet runs into the yard. This has caused a bad smell that affects all the houses in the street.

Nyembe said she is working on fixing the problem because she is aware of residents’ concerns.

“I know there are concerns about the hole I dug. I did it so the waste can be flushed from the house into the hole. The plumber failed to do proper plumbing. It was faulty from the time he did it, which is why I have been experiencing problems,” she said.

One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said they are worried about their children.

“She has dug a hole and our children play around that hole.

“We are in the summer season and already there are flies and a bad smell. Some of us cannot open windows because of the smell. Whatever is being flushed from her house reaches the outside.

“If it is a sanitary towel then that is flushed out, we see it. Not only that, we are exposed to seeing her faeces,” said the neighbour.

Nyembe said no one has come to her to express concerns
