MESSAGES of condolences have poured in following the death of 65-year-old actor Tiki Nxumalo, well-known for his role Sompisi, Ruby’s father on the old Generations.

The actor died in the early hours of Monday.

According to a family member, Nxumalo was found lying on the ground outside his house in Lamontville, south of Durban.

Nelisiwe Nxumalo, who is a relative of “the famous mkhulu”, said they received a call in the morning informing them of his death.

“When we got to his house we saw his asthma medication on his bed. We suspect he might have collapsed trying to find help because he was alone in the house,” she said.

The family is in shock and have yet to meet to discuss funeral arrangements, but it is thought he will be buried on Saturday.

Nxumalo was not married and had no children. He leaves behind his siblings.

He became a household name after appearing in a KFC advert and thereafter got a role in Generations where he played the delusional character Sompisi.

The KwaZulu-Natal Arts and Culture Department conveyed condolences to Nxumalo’s familly following his death.

“We are saddened by Nxumalo’s passing as the loss of any artist leaves a gap in the industry. He entertained thousands of South Africans while representing KZN on a national platform,” said MEC Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha. - News24 and WR
