AFTER making headlines on local media and visiting media houses with the hope of getting assistance, 24-year- old Phumzile and#034;Lilo” Duma from Mafakatini has lost hope about her unusual health condition.

Lilo has big growths on her face and back which results in her being unable to walk or sit properly in her wheelchair.

Her 58-year-old mother Florence said their ordeal has gone from bad to worse. According to the mother, doctors do not know what Duma is suffering from.

“I have lost hope and I have made peace with myself that we will never get help. Many people have shown their faces in our house, but not a single person has come back. Papers and radio stations have shared our story and we were positive that things will work out, but nothing has happened.”

The Echo reporter visited Lilo.

“The skin on my back has grown massively and is causing me shortness of breath. My skin has become a burden. I’m a 24-year-old who has become a four-year-old. I get hurt when I see my mother struggling and I can see through her sad eyes that she is overwhelmed by sadness. I can’t sleep on a bed. I prefer sleeping on the floor so that I don’t worry her if I want to turn over. I can’t sit in my wheelchair for long, I can’t sleep on my stomach and I also can’t sleep on my back. I have been suffering for 20 years and every year things get worse. I appeal for help from anyone, even a pastor. If there is a pastor who can pray for my illness I beg him to show up. I have become my own slave as the condition began when I was four,” said Lilo
