ARTISTS such as Jimmy Dludlu, Freshly Ground, Judith Sephuma, Kunle Ayo, Zakes Bantwini, Vincent Bones (SA. idol) and Thokozani “Somnandi” Langa have been billed to rock music lovers in Pietermaritzburg.

Others to perform at the second annual Maritzburg Jazz Festival at Golden Horse Casino on 1 August include Joel Zuma and Prime Circle

One of the orgainsers, Nkanyezi Cele, said part of this jazz music gathering is to unite people as they have included South African-based Nigerian jazz guitarist Kunle Ayo.

“This is again sending a message of unity since there were incidents of xenophobia not so long ago. By adding an African brother we are saying to people ‘hey here we are, we are all Africans, let us unite and be one’,” said Cele.

“The festival is aimed at sharing our heritage with one another and also to have fun at the same time. We promise fun, togetherness and laughter in the name of music.

“We have Freshly Ground who will perform some of their new compositions and take us back as they will also perform their well-known songs.

“Lira is currently on tour overseas and she will be back to join the city on the day,” said Cele.

The event is a prestigious concert on par with its jazz festival counterparts in Durban and Cape Town, according to him.

Jazz connoisseurs will be spoilt for choice with an amazing line-up of accomplished musicians.

The Golden Horse director of operations and complex general manager, Maureen Kivits, said this is an amazing line-up featuring the finest local entertainers and they are thrilled to have the opportunity of showcasing such talent.

“We are anticipating large numbers so booking is essential,” said Kivits.

Tickets available from Computicket at R200, at the gate R250 and VIP tickets R800.
