KZN Veterans Football Club to host global tourney

2015-10-01 06:00

LOCAL soccer followers are in for a big treat, especially those who admire the skill and talent of the retired ones.

The local soccer veterans’ association under the banner of KZN Veterans’ Football Club will host the International Masters Goodwill Festival on Saturday and Sunday at Orhtman Road grounds in Mountain Rise, opposite Albany. The local chairman of the LOC, Rees Chetty, said although it was a challenge to put the event together and required a lot of travelling, was worth it.

“It was a big mission to pull it off. It took a bit of endless meetings, consulting and convincing a lot of countries to win the bid. To host it is really an honour and will put our city on the world map,” said Chetty.

Those who will take part in the event include Chennai Veterans Soccer Club, India Columbo Veterans Soccer Club, Sri Lanka, Selangor Veterans and Kuala Lumpur, Dubai Expats Veterans and United Arab Emirates. Cheety said it took hard work and a couple of years to bring it to Mariztburg, but he is glad that everything finally fell into place
