KZN licence fees too high, and may come down

2015-10-01 06:00

KZN residents could be spared an increase in vehicle licensing fees as a Transport Department report indicates they are already too high.

A report tabled before the KZN Legislature’s transport committee said the annual fee may even decrease, partly because of consumer pressure and because the national government is trying to standardise licence fees across the country.

Transport Department head Sibusiso Gumbi admitted that KZN was among the most expensive provinces to license a vehicle.

The report states that KZN ranked the highest in cost in five out of eight categories of licence fees.

Transport officials told the committee that KZN’s fees were 27% higher than in Mpumalanga.
