Police shooting, man charged

A 44-YEAR-OLD man from Imbali ­appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court this week in ­connection with the attempted ­murder of two PMB policemen in the wake of a robbery last month.

Thandabantu Sibisi is charged with attempted murder of policemen Dinesh Govender, who was hospitalised after the shooting, and Reginald Iyer.

The men were shot at following a robbery in Cardiff Road in the ­Eastwood area on April 28.

According to the charge sheet, Sibisi faces charges of kidnapping and ­robbing Kirk Davids of his pistol and five live rounds of ammunition, of ­robbing Kang Weng of R80 000 cash, CCTV, fax and computer equipment, and kidnapping Isaac Shabalala on the day in question.

He is also charged with malicious ­injury to property arising from alleged damage to a security system belonging to Weng. The case was postponed until today for a bail application
