Pupils get ‘warm’ gifts from contractor

AA GARDENS handed over warm clothing to 51 pupils at Byrne Combined School in Richmond recently.

AA Gardens was contracted by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport to fell trees in the area and what the contractors’ director Seggie Naicker saw while working there led him make the donations

“We, the staff and pupils of Byrne Combined School, pass our deepest gratitude to the Department of Transport and the tree-felling company for the wonderful gifts of hats, gloves, socks, ties and scarves that were given to pupils.

“These gifts are going to make a huge difference to our pupils as they come from economically challenged families and don’t have warm clothes, especially in winter,” said school principal Beauty Khethiwe Mchunu.

She said pupils will feel cared for after the department officials took time out of their busy schedule for the event, and the contractor and staff dug deep into their pocket for the benefit of the children.

Naicker said he was touched by the plight of the children as they walked past his work site to and from school, and decided to do something about it.

“We were working on the district road and I realised they had no shoes and others did not have a full uniform. I then decided to do something and involved the Department of Transport in the handover of the items,” he said
