THE first Royal Duck Dash will take place at this year’s Royal Agricultural Show which starts on Friday, 29 May.

In the name of charity, the yellow rubber ducks will make their way down the river every day to raise funds for the Childhood Cancer Association (Choc).

“We are very excited to be part of this event. This is the first time it is taking place and we hope the community buy into the idea and support the race so we can raise some much-needed funds for Choc,” said Chilufya Pikiti of Choc.

Visitors are urged to buy a duck at R10, which will be put into the river for the race to take place at 12.30pm every day. The winning duck’s owner will receive R1 000.

“We encourage people to adopt a duck for charity. A race will take place every day. The idea is to get 1000 ducks adopted every day so there is a potential to make R100 000 for Choc,” said Shelly Kreinacke of Cainto, race organiser.

All money raised from the sale of the ducks will go directly to the Choc Foundation.

Choc booths will be set up at entrances where staff will be on hand for visitors to buy their ducks from
