Schools invited to ‘re*think’

2015-08-27 06:00

SCHOOLS in Pietermaritzburg and across KwaZulu-Natal are invited to unleash their creativity and participate in the Liberty Midlands Mall “re*think campaign” - Renewable Energy for a Brighter Tomorrow Schools Art Competition.

The re*think campaign, now in its fifth year, is focused on informing and educating the community about global warming, climate change and the effects of the human footprint on the environment by reducing, re-using and recycling, a rethinking the way we do things to lower our carbon footprint.

The ultimate goal is to draw attention to the variety of ways in which to promote more sustainable living solutions. Schools are invited to submit an A1 size poster, in the form of a drawing or painting related to the theme “Renewable Energy for a Brighter Tomorrow” and may only enter one submission in each of the following categories:

• Junior primary (Grade RR - 3)

• Senior primary (Grade 4 - 7)

• High school (Grade 8 - 11)

Participating schools must complete an entry form and submit the completed form on or before 28 August. Submission deadline for a school’s final artwork is midnight on 28 September.

There is R30 000 to be won - the top three entries in each category will win R5 000, R3 000 and R2 000, respectively, for their school. The winning schools and runners-up in each category will be invited to display their artwork at Liberty Midlands Mall from 29 October to 8 November.
