Tough matches for Team of Choice See fixtures on page 23

2015-08-27 06:01

WHILE Maritzburg United’s next league fixtures look tough, busy and likely to over-stretch the local outfit, they are however, not looking tricky.

The Team of Choice, under their new head coach, Mandla Ncikazi, registered a draw against Jomo Cosmos last Monday at Harry Gwala Stadium.

The visitors looked defensive in their game plan, but did not suffer from stage fright as predicted by many.

Ezenkosi came back to the elite league this season after campaigning for a couple of seasons in the National First Division (NFD).

The home side played fairly well, although many of their die-hard supporters expected better results, especially at home.

Maritzburg United will travel to Cape Town Stadium to face Ajax Cape Town on Saturday night.

Next Wednesday, 26 August, United will be away again to face Bidvest Wits at Milpark’s Bidvest Stadium.

The good news for United is that their experienced and ever-green midfielder, Kurt Lentjies, will be fit and raring to go. Also work permits for their foreign legion - John Paintsil, Brian Onyango and Evans Rusike - are now in order.

Another KwaZulu-Natal team, Lamontville Golden Arrows, will be also away to Jomo Cosmos at Olen Park in North West.

Abafana Bes’thende captain Trevor Mathiane says it is goint to be interesting and difficult to face Ezenkosi because both recently got promoted from NFD.

“Cosmos is always tough and tricky. It won’t be an easy walk in the park at all,” said Mathiane.

Mathiane says their opponents are also expected to throw everything at them.

“It will be their home game and we are expecting them to make our life difficult.”
