BUSINESSMAN and founder and owner of Café Cuisine, Sabelo Vilakazi, and the Greater Edendale Mall donated uniforms and school kits to Esigodini Primary School.

The initiative is to encourage youngsters to aim higher regardless of their background, said Vilakazi.

Sixty pupils at Esigodini Primary were the beneficiaries of a “back-to-school campaign”.

Vilakazi said they looked at the challenges the youngsters faced and saw the need to intervene, and with the help of teachers, certain pupils were chosen to be recipients of the uniforms and kits.

“I was once a child in primary school and I was one of the children who faced challenges while growing up. There are lots of children who are going through the same thing.

“If there are people who are able to lend a hand, they should do so. Providing for a child is a lifetime investment. That is what we are trying to do, we encourage pupils and at the same time send a message to parents telling them they are not alone,” said Vilakazi.

Greater Edendale mall marketing manager Sonya Caldecott said the mall is committed to assisting the community, and often campaigns such as this campaign go unnoticed.

“Although many children are sponsored by our community, 50 children were still in desperate need of school supplies.

“Full pencil cases, A4 files, flip files, hard covered and softcovered exercise books were given to the children in need. The school desperately needed “bibs” for their two junior netball teams, and the Greater Edendale Mall assisted and made their wish come true,” she said.
