GROWING up in an underprivileged home, a young man from KwaMafunze, Melusi Nxele, joined forces with Imbube Africa Group in a bid to donate 100 pairs of school shoes to needy pupils from three primary schools in the area.

Nxele started the campaign in November 2015, through social media platforms, and with the group, has collected 80 pairs of school shoes.

He founded the project in order to give back to the community around his area by contributing to the betterment of education.

“Growing up in an underprivileged home, I know how it feels to have nothing and I thought, ‘why not make a positive change in my community by contributing towards education’. The initial target number was 1 000 shoes, but since this is the first project, our target is to collect at least 100 pairs, although we will appreciate more.

“Through social networks and donations from organisations and people, we have managed to collect 80 pairs of shoes so far. We have targeted three schools in KwaMafunze area - Thulasizwe Lower Primary, Bhengu Primary and Nkabini Primary. Our aim is to deliver the shoes to the schools on 20 January. We ask people to take part in the initiative because we believe that by educating our youth, our country’s future is not at stake.”

People interested in the project are requested to buy shoes as cash will not be accepted. If you want to donate school shoes, drop them off at 21 Lighthouse Road, Umhlanga Ridge or contact Zazi Nxele on 072 150 0858 or Sabelo Nxele on 072 857 8875.
