Manufacturing entrepreneurs invited to expo

2015-12-17 06:00

THINK Big Marketing Strategies is inviting people to nominate manufacturing entrepreneurs to take part in the eKasi business exhibition next year.

The expo, an initiative of Think Big Marketing Strategies in partnership with Ithala Bank, Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda), Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), Greater Edendale Mall and the Department of Economic Development and Tourism, is aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship in the manufacturing sector in townships and rural areas.

Event organiser Zazi Nxele said people have until 10 July, 2016 to nominate their favourite entrepreneurs who will then exhibit their services for free at the Greater Edendale mall from 3 to 6 March, 2016.

Nxele said there is a concern that while there manufacturing businesses in townships and rural areas, people still prefer to go to town because these businesses are not marketed as they should be.

“We are also concerned that we have become a generation of consumers rather than manufacturers. There are people in our townships who are as equally talented as those who are in town, but they are unknown. The expo will be a platform to showcase what they can do, and based on the quality of work that they do, only 20 businesses will be chosen to exhibit their products for free for three days.

“We have also invited different entities whose duty would be to guide and mentor these businesses. We will provide stands, marketing material and they will get training from Seda about sustaining businesses,” said Nxele.

There will also be awards given to seven manufacturing businesses from seven municipalities who excel in the manufacturing sector.

The official launch for the eKasi expo will be on 15 January, 2016. To nominate, phone Nxele on
