NEARLY 500 primary-school pupils from kwaMafunze, just outside Pietermaritzburg, received new school shoes.

These shoes were the result of the “100 School Shoes Campaign”, started by businessman, Melusi Nxele.

Speaking at the distribution on Wednesday, Imbube Africa Logistic executive, Melusi Nxele, relayed how his impoverished childhood inspired him to develop this programme, which was contributed to by community members such as Amakhosi, Izinduna and religious and political leaders. The campaign, launched in November 2015, has superseded expectations to the delight of recipients, pupils at Thulasizwe, Hemu-Hemu and Nkabini Primary.

Mbali Nkabini, from Gobindlovu High, spoke on behalf of the principals and expressed their gratitude for the donation. She urged community members and local business owners to continue contributing to the campaign throughout the year.
