Centre requests donation

2015-06-10 06:01

THE Reahola Educare Centre in Thabong, Welkom, plans to commemorate this years’ Child Protection Week, which commences on 31 May and ends on 7 June.

The theme for 2015 is Working Together to Protect Children.

The event is held annually in South Africa to raise awareness for the rights of children as articulated in the Children’s Act of 2005.

For the purpose of staging a successful event in Thabong, the centre appeals for the public’s assistance in the donation of refreshments for 500 children who are expected to participate in a series of activities on the day.

The participants will be of various early childhood development centres in the township of Thabong.

Saduma Miya, project coordinator, says the task team’s logistics are in place to ensure the event will be successful. However, they are faced with the challenge of providing enough refreshments.

Meanwhile, the government urges everyone to wear a green ribbon during Child Protection Week to show support for the promotion of the rights, care and protection of children.

The green ribbon was adopted by the National Child Protection Committee in 2004. The green sybolises life and growth.

By wearing a green ribbon, government believes members of the public will be showing they care and that they support Child Protection Week.

People willing to support the Reahola Educare Centre by providing refreshments can call Miya on 061-369-5528 or Mary Mbhele on 072-293-8941
