SOUTH AFRICANS and their brothers and sisters from the African countries united in celebrating Heritage Day on Thursday (24/09).

On this day, South Africans are encouraged to celebrate their cultures and traditions.

Just as in the past years, the Free State provincial event was celebrated at the Ficksburg Show Grounds with thousands of Free Staters coming in numbers to celebrate the day.

Those who did not manage to make it to the provincial event, held their celebration in towns and villages.

Most of the schools had celebrated it on Wednesday (23/09) since the 24th was a public holiday.

Learners and people on the street were dressed in their different traditional attire.

In schools, learners took part in traditional games such as diketo, mokgibo, managae, ditolobonya and many others.

Express Eastern Free State had a chance to visit the Pheta Intermediate School in Qwaqwa, the Motswepua Intermediate School and the Katleho ABC Day-Care Centre, both in Bohlokong near Bethlehem
