Constables arrested, in court

2015-07-29 06:01

TWO off-duty police constables, one of Parkweg and the other of Bloemspruit, were arrested on Friday (24/07) in Bloemfontein.

According to Capt. Chaka Marope, police spokesperson, the suspects boarded a taxi from the Mangaung location to the Windmill Casino at around 21:30. Upon arrival, the two allegedly changed their minds and requested the driver to drop them off in the Bloemfontein central business district.

“It is alleged that on the way, an argument erupted between the driver and the two police officers,” says Marope.

“During the argument, one police member allegedly pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the driver. The driver stoped the vehicle and jumped out. A motorist called the police. The police arrested the two police constables on the scene.”

Marope says the driver alleges that the two officers stole an undisclosed amount of cash and also attempted to drive off with his vehicle by cutting of the ignition cables.

The two arrested constables, Joseph Bontjies (31) and Dilekile Nomhla (32), appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court, charged with the pointing of a firearm, the theft of cash and the attempted theft of a motor vehicle. They were released on bail and will appear again on 25 August
