A TRI-LATERAL cross-border crime prevention operation between the Northern, Eastern and Western Cape resulted in the arrests of two suspects found in possession of drugs on Monday, 28 September.

This happened during a police road block on the N1 between Three Sisters and Victoria West where Motalentoa Lemeke (42) was found in possession of 4,2 kg of dagga worth a street value of R6 000.

He was in a taxi en-route from the Eastern Cape to Cape Town.

Lemeke appeared in the Victoria West Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (29/09) and was released.

The case was remanded to 20 October.

The other suspect, Chrstiaan Bezuidenhout (34), was also arrested during the same roadblock after being found in possession of 250 mandrax tablets with a street value of about R25 000.

He briefly appeared in court and the case was postponed.

According to WO Mzingisi Yekani, Bezuidenhout was arrested near a hiking spot seeking a lift to Midddelburg from Cape Town when he was arrested.

“After searching the suspect, police confiscated 250 mandrax tablets which was found in a bag in his possession,” Yekani said
