PHUTHADITJHABA. – The Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality (MaP) is promising the best ever Dipontsho tsa Maluti-a-Phofung in 2015.

The seven-day event is lined up with a sequence of performances aimed at entertaining the community of the Free State and surrounding areas.

The Dipontsho celebration was launched on Monday (07/09) at the Basotho Cultural Village.

Apparently Dipontsho has been a popular event in Qwaqwa since 1980, but it was stopped in 1993.

Vusi Tshabalala, the executive mayor of MaP saw the importance of re-introducing the event last year after he had been entrusted to guide the troubled municipality.

Mamoroanyane Mositi, the acting executive mayor, said this year’s event would be one of the best events that they had ever hosted.

She admitted that there had been a few things they had done wrong last year and pointed out that they have learnt from their mistakes.

“We have invited more sponsors and stakeholders who are going to make sure that we host the best event,” said Mositi. “We are hoping to have a bigger and better event.

“We have also tried our best to make sure that we accommodate the kids with the kiddies’ rides.

“This year’s event also has career and bursary information exhibitions, because we want to give our children the information that they need for their future.”

Diphontsho started on Monday with the live performance by various artists at the Phuthaditjhaba Hall.

The kiddies’ rides are expected to be at the Charles Mopeli Stadium until Friday (11/08).

On Friday from 16:00 a youth festival will be hosted at the Phuthaditjhaba Stadium where the likes of Chommie, Spikiri, Thebe, Masheleng and many others will entertain the youth. Letta Mbulu, Caiphus Semenya, Ringo Madlingozi and others are expected to wow the crowds at the main festival at the Charles Mopeli Stadium on Saturday (12/09) starting from 12:00, until the next morning.

The event will be wrapped up with the gospel festival at the Qwaqwa Campus of the University of the Free State (UFS) on Sunday. The likes of Teboho Moloi, Solly Mahlangu, Solly Moholo and Sfiso Ncwane will be at the final event to bless it
